I took a road trip to the U.P. over the Fourth of July holiday and my first Sea-Doo launch was in Munising to visit the Grand Island and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
While I still had a blast riding my Sea-Doo around these amazing places, I was disappointed to learn while preparing for my trip that I could only Sea-Doo a very small section of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The following law prohibits personal water crafts from going beyond Miners Beach, which is only about 10% of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. LINK TO LAW. What is especially frustrating, is that this law only applies to PWC's, and not to other boats. Even if the PWC is operating at a slow speed, they are still not allowed to go past Miners Beach. The very small silver lining is that the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore boundary extends a quarter mile into Lake Superior, so you can still ride a PWC if beyond that range, but of course that takes away the ability to see the beauty of the Pictured Rocks cliffs.
